Today’s Post: Brought to You From Medieval Spain

dsc01838This is my husband’s favorite baseball hat.  When it refused to divulge super-top-secret information, I was forced to put it in this, er, “cage of inducement”.

Ok, just kidding.  When I saw this thing it brought to mind my trip to Spain and thoughts of the Spanish Inquisition.  Surprisingly, I saw nary a sign of the Inquisition when I was in Spain.  Which is too bad because when you’re born into the “Club” you want to know as much as possible about your spiritual heritage.  However, I could take a bit of consolation in the fact that I saw St. Theresa of Avila’s finger, which was sporting a ginormous emerald ring.  Her finger was surprisingly large, too.   That St. Theresa.  She was a real pistola.

Anyway, I got this, um, “thing” at Walmart.  If I remember correctly I paid $3.98 for it.

My husband has lots of baseball caps.  He wears them pretty much anytime when he’s not at work.  This fetching Nike model is one of his favorites.  So he’s worn it a lot, and before long it had gotten into a sorry state.

So what to do?  I suppose you could take ball caps to the dry cleaners but no way am I going to do that.  I figured that pretty much the only thing you could do with a disgusting, sweat-stained ball cap that has seen better days is to toss it out.

When I saw this, er, “thing” at Walmart I thought I might as well give it a try.  And I’m glad I did.

This is how it works.  You put the hat in the cage.  You put the caged hat on the top rack of your dishwasher (along with your dishes.  Don’t just run a load for this.  Yikes!).  Then when the cycle is all done, take it out and let it finish drying somewhere.

It works pretty well.  I was able to salvage this moderately-yucky ball cap.  I did try it on one that was severely yucky, and it didn’t come out as well.  But at least it was clean. The best thing is that it’s easy.  Virtually no effort required on my part.  Yay! Me happy Lazy Housewife!

P.S. If you want to get one of these and try it yourself, they’re in the laundry section (where they stock  the ironing boards, clothespins, and such).
