Shopping DONE

dsc01730Here is my pantry.  The cupboards are no longer bare.

Just as I predicted yesterday, I only made it to Sam’s Club and Kroger. I guess I really know myself.  But that’s ok.  I got enough stuff to keep us well fed for a good month at least.  Or rather, I should say, some things will last less than a month, and some things will last longer (and some in between).

I spent $225.00.  No screaming good deals, but there were a couple of standouts.  I found a huge beef brisket at Kroger for .87/lb.  Hubby’s been wanting to make one of these, because he loves the brisket tacos at South of the Border.  I’ve never made one before, but apparently it’s very easy.  Just stick it in your crockpot, douse it in barbecue sauce, and let ‘er rip.  Of course, I will probably do this in the solar oven.

This thing was huge - about 12 pounds. My husband cut it into six portions and froze them, so this was a good deal, and he’ll get a lot of mileage out of it.

Also, bananas at Kroger were .29/lb, so I bought a lot, with the intention of freezing the majority. Lots of frozen veggies, frozen fruit, dry milk, eggs, etc.  We won’t starve in the immediate future.

Yesterday when I got home the mail had already been delivered.  For the first time in many weeks I got all the local grocery store sale fliers.  Albertson’s is having a great sale on whole chickens -  .69/lb.  That’s a stock-up price for me, so I’m considering heading out and picking up a few today.  I only have 2 left from my last stock-up run (one’s defrosting in the fridge for tomorrow night’s dinner as we speak).  But I’m not sure - room is getting low in the freezer, and I know this sale will happen again around here in the near future.

As a special surprise, my husband stopped at a Mexican supermarket and bought beef and chicken carne asada for a Memorial Day barbecue.  He used his own money, so that was nice of him.  He also bought avocados, tortillas, and a lemon and a lime.  What a great way to kick off the summer (Yay! he bought a lot, so he froze half for a later date.  A future yummy meal).

Today is another nice sunny day, so I’m going to do some motor scootering. I have a plan to motor scooter to some of the places I regularly visit, but are kind of far away.  I will seek out the most convenient scootering routes, and make note of how long it takes me to get there.  Have to avoid freeways and those high-speed highways.  My little pink scoots just can’t go that fast.  Though she’s willing, I’m sure.  Today I was thinking of taking a spin out to my doctor’s office, which is in another town about 15 miles from here.

Hubby has a late night, so I won’t bother to solar cook anything, but I have plenty of leftovers from Monday and Tuesday.  Yesterday I solar cooked a Tater Tot-type casserole and it was delish.
