Pink Motor Scooter Week: The Craft Room Connection

A while back I wrote a post about how after all these years, my dream of a Craft Room finally came true. So I thought I’d spend a little time now and then keeping y’all up-to-date with the fruits of my crafting labors.

This is what I have just finished.  It’s a tote bag that I embroidered.  It’s called “Scooter Babe”, and that’s Scooter Tessie on the right and Scooter Hubby on the left. (You can click on the picture to make it bigger, if you’d like a better look at it.  I highly recommend that).

I embroidered the bag using an iron-on transfer sheet I purchased from my ALL-TIME FAVORITE embroidery iron-on transfer sheet source, Sublime Stitching.  They are right here in Texas, which is yet another point in Texas’ favor (but which also means I have to pay sales tax when I order things from them on the Internet.  Totally worth it, though).

If you like embroidery, and you like whimsy, than this is the place for you. There’s nothing else like it in the WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD (but if any of you know anything like it out there please please please let me know, because I love to embroider).

The transfer sheets are a good Frugal deal because you can use them multiple times.  And when their ironing mojo is all gone, you can still use them with tracing paper as tracing patterns.

I bought the bag at either JoAnn Fabrics or Hobby Lobby, I can’t remember which at the moment.  It was a two-fer deal, and I don’t think it was very expensive (but my brain is drawing a blank at the moment).

Actually, the bag didn’t come like this.  It had ugly, plastic-y handles.  After I finished the embroidery part, I just wasn’t satisfied with the bag itself.  So I cut the handles off, lined the bag with some material I had lying around, and made some handles out of the same material.  Now it’s perfect.

I like that cloth I used for the linings and handles a lot.  It reminds me of a horse-jockey shirt. And come to think of it, I do think of my motor scooter as my trusty steed.

Now, my sewing ability is almost non-existent.  But this was a pretty easy job.  It took me about an hour to do.

This tote bag goes great with my new pink motor scooter (see this post).  It’s just the right size to fit in the compartment under the seat.

I actually bought this iron-on transfer sheet WAY before I got my motor scooter for Christmas.  I just really love motor scooters, and I want to project myself to the world as a Scooter Babe whether I’m walking, driving, or scootering.   So I knew this was the project for me. GO SCOOTS! (that’s what I call my motor scooter).
