Frugal Idea for January 1st, 2010

Out With The Old….

It seems as if many many people are happy to see the last of 2009. I can understand why. But poor 2010! So many expectations for this baby New Year, and it’s barely 5 hours old.

I tried really hard to stay awake to honor the incoming New Year, but after a delicious Thai meal, I pretty much had no choice but to fall asleep way early in front of the TV. To help all us N.Y.E. diners celebrate, we were all given a FREE glass of delicious champagne with our dinners. So I ended 2009 on a Frugal note with a Frugal Coup. However, Frugal Coups in the form of free booze tend to make me sleepy.

That’s ok. I’ve rung in many a New Year with all my wits about me, so a few witless ones sprinkled here and there are bound to happen.

Here are a few of the many ways I have spent New Year’s Eve (and Day), with their Frugal Ratings (five stars being the frugallest, one star being the least frugallest):

$300 per person dinner, dancing, and live music with another couple at a fancy restaurant * (That was fun, but NOT frugal. In fact, it is so UN-frugal, that I really should give this one-eighth of a star, only I don’t know how)

PARTY, DUDE WOO HOO! ***

Passed out in front of the TV after a homemade spaghetti dinner *****

Watching the Rose Parade from a grandstand on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, CA with my brothers and sisters because we got free tickets *****

Watching my brother and sisters go off to glue roses and other formerly live matter on to Rose Parade floats during high school and college, and congratulating myself for staying home and being lazy *****

Watching my brother and sisters get ready to spend the night on Colorado Blvd. to get a good spot to watch the Rose Parade on New Year’s day while congratulating myself for staying home and being lazy *****

Watching the Rose Parade on TV *****

Going out to eat at: Fast Food Joints *****-Fancy Restaurants *

Reading a good book in front of the TV, watching the ball drop at midnight, than immediately to bed *****

Yep - so I’ve pretty much drained the goblet of New Year’s fun activities, from expensive to cheap. As I review the above list I’m glad to see that the Frugal activities outweigh the Expensive.

Happy New Year!
