Naked Christmas Trees Make Me Blush
For the first time EVER, the world-wide headquarters of Ideas For Frugal Living is home to four, count them, FOUR Christmas trees.
Two were given to me, and two were purchased this year - one for $25.00 and the other, a ginormous 12 footer was purchased for, ahem, $275.00. All are fake, which is just totally, WONDERFULLY Christmas, don’t you think?
I love Christmas (Ho Ho HO!) so all these trees are great to have around the house. But decorating four trees???? Oof, I wasn’t entirely sure I had the right stuff.
Phew - it turns out I’m okay in the decorations department. I’ve been married long enough to have accumulated quite a collection over the years. But it turns out I only have two tree skirts.
Yikes! A Christmas tree without a Christmas tree skirt is just not right. I would embarrass myself in the eyes of all the Christmas revelers around the world if word got out that any tree in my house is buck nekkid.
So off to some local stores I went. The good news - everywhere you go right now it seems as if all Christmas decor is between 30% and 50% off. But still, I was looking at at least $25.00 for a skirt that would make me and my trees happy.
Then I had a frugal inspiration. I headed to the fabric section. Wow! The selection was way better then pre-made tree skirts. After some deliberation I bought three yards each of two different fabrics at $2.99 per yard.
This store is one of those that usually has a 40% off coupon in the Sunday paper, good for any item. Which I didn’t have. So I could have saved even more. But I think that Nine Bucks is still pretty good for getting something unique, pretty and exactly what I want.
Now, if you have this problem too, a sheet or random length of cloth laying around the house would work just as well, and much more cheaply. But I didn’t like any of the stuff I happened to have laying around the house. Oh, lazy Me didn’t bother sewing the edges, either. I just swirled the fabric artfully around the bases of the trees. It looks great.
