Frugal Idea for June 27th, 2009

My Cheap Day

Today I decided to immerse myself in cheapness.  This feeling stems from a desire to right the balance in my own personal Frugalverse.

It looks like I’m headed for a rather large purchase in the form of bookshelves.  To come to terms with that yin, today I’m indulging in a little tightwad-yang. I’m getting off my rear and getting things done.

This is hard, though, because I was awakened around 3 am this morning by a rascally pooch.  I suspect he was raiding the litter box for some kitty roca.  I know.  Gross.  But I live in the real world.

It is strange how you sometimes get a mad burst of energy when you are utterly exhausted.  I seem to be experiencing this right now.  Let me prove it to you:

Got up at 3 am.

Went for a 4.6 mile walk at 5 am.

Bathed 3 little pooches and one big pooch.

Administered Frontline Flea & Tick Medicine to 4 pooches and one kitty who were very much opposed to this.

Washed 4 dog-bed covers (which is a pain, because they are the large size.  Putting them back over their stuffing is a chore).

Cleaned 2 bathrooms.

Vacuumed the entire downstairs area, which is always extra hairy after a dog-bath session.

Got the solar cooker out of the garage and put it in the backyard to warm up.

Put some solar tea out in the sun.

Watered all the houseplants.

Wrapped up and boxed for sending my niece’s birthday gift (She lives in California and her birthday’s tomorrow, so I’m a little behind.  Yikes! But it’ll be worth the wait.) Later, I’ll take the box to the Post Office.  Yay! They just opened one right by my house.  Before the that, the nearest one to me was 10 miles away.  This looks like a job for the Pink Motor Scooter! Oh, and while I’m out I need to pick up some drycleaning.  Hmmm.  Maybe I’ll have to rethink the Pink Motor Scooter-no hangar hooks.  Rats.

After I finish this post, I’ll get right to the ironing for the week.

Took ground turkey out of the fridge to make solar meatloaf (I’ll be doing that after I iron, the solar cooker should be good and warmed up by then).

Phew! I’m starting to get to that lightheaded stage.  But I’m going to keep going because my house, my furry friends, and my clothes will look great when I’m all done.  At this rate I should be done for the day by 11 am.  Goodbye chores, hello nappytime!  Sometimes that prospect is all that keeps me going.

The fact that all these things are getting done with such cheap labor (mine) makes me feel a little bit better about shelling out for the shelves. You know - it’s like I’m “earning” them.

Ok, enough of this chit-chat.  I’ve got work to do!
