Jack Is Not Our Friend After All
I received some disturbing news about the free taco promotion from Jack in the Box on 6/26/08. It seems that one of my readers went to the store in Grapevine Mills (at Grapevine Mills Mall) and presented his gas receipt from earlier in the week. He was told that they only accepted gas receipts from that day!
In Jack’s Press Conference, he said “any” gas receipt. I didn’t think this was fair at all, so I sent Jack the following e-mail this morning:
Dear Jack,
Yesterday I promoted your 2freetacosday on my frugal living blog ideasforfrugalliving.com. One of my readers went to your store in Grapevine Mills, Tx (at the Grapevine Mills Mall) and was told that he needed to use a gas receipt from that day (his was from earlier in the week). He wasted lots of gas to get told this, and didn’t get his tacos on top of it. Your press conference said “any” gas receipt. Not nice Jack! - I feel bad for unintentionally misleading my reader on your say-so! I even said you were a frugal persons friend!
Now I’m not so sure!
We’ll see what the response is. I’m very sorry if you read about this “deal” in my blog and decided to try it and had the same experience as my Grapevine reader. I hope Jack takes responsibility for this error; he has always struck me as a responsible citizen of the fast-food community. I may have to revise my opinion, however!

Thank you for sticking up for me Frugal Freedom Fighter. I’m still a Jack fan, but just a little less after that (with a little less gasoline as well, as this location was out of the way).

Oh, that is so sad, Tacoless! I can’t tell you how sorry I am for my role in this taco debacle. I really hope Jack can make good for my readers. I’m surprised at him, he really seemed sincere about his desire to do a good deed for cash-strapped citizens!
