I Save $54
Years and years ago I read Wicked by Mr. Gregory Maguire. Loved it. I ask you, why can’t ALL books be so great?
A year ago my BFF Dawna took to me to see the musical extravaganza of the same name. Loved it, too. As a momento of that happy occassion, she gave me a Barbie Dorothy doll.
I really like dolls, but I’ve never been too interested in collecting them. My sister has a big Madam Alexander collection; I love those cute little dolls, too, but I guess I’m just not the collecting type.
But something about Wicked (and so, I guess, The Wizard of Oz) makes me want to own those dolls.
I was out Christmas shopping the other day, and I saw 18″ Madam Alexander Dorothy, Wicked Witch of the West (green dolls are awesome!), and Glinda dolls for sale at a major department store. They were $44.99 each. That’s kind of a lot, but heck, these are BIG dollies, and cute, cute, cute. So I bought them.
They are right here with me in my study as I write this. And they are still cute, and I still love them. But not as much as when I originally bought them the other day. Mainly because I found the exact same ones at the major department store’s website for $26.99 each.
Ouch! That’s a pretty big price difference. Now, the dolls available online say that they are 10 inch and 8 inch. But I don’t believe it because the model numbers are exactly the same. So I went ahead and ordered them, and I’m going to take the $44.99 versions back.
The only thing is, I’m not sure if I should take them back TODAY, RIGHT NOW (that’s really the best plan) or wait until the ones I ordered come in. If they’re teeny, then I’ll be sad that I took back the ginormous ones. Though it’s true I do like the little Madam Alexander dolls, too. But I’m pretty sure that the sizes given on the website are just misprints.
But what if they aren’t misprints? I really don’t need SIX Wizard of Oz dolls in TWO different sizes. Who does? And, even more to the point, is this sort of behavior frugal?
No, no, and NO.
If I don’t take the current crop back RIGHT NOW, I know I will be horribly tempted to keep all six if they should turn out to be two different sizes.
Hmmm. What to do, what to do?! Well, I think it doesn’t hurt to wait a few days. My order should be in within a week or so. Then I can decide what to do when I actually have the dolls in my hot little hands.
Or maybe I’ll just take them back today.
