Feeling Left Out
New-Year’s-Resolution-making is flying fast and furious. For the past week or so I’ve had to be light on my feet to avoid being conked on the head by all the good intentions flying around the Frugal blogosphere. But why deny it? A part of me wants to join the ranks of the newly virtuous, too.
There are two schools of thought when it comes to New Year’s Resolutions and they boil down to these: 1. Dream Big and So Be Very Very Bitter When it all Comes Crashing Down and 2. Bask In That Warm Glow of Accomplishment When You Do Indeed Stick to Your Resolution to Drink One Four Ounce Glass of Water Every Six Months.
But I propose that there is plenty of real estate between these two geographical extremes that even a big lazy such as myself can comfortably reside in. So I think I’ll use this year’s annual Resolution Orgy to attempt to accomplish a goal I’ve had my eye on for a while.
Bowling! Yes, bowling. I don’t know, something about the glamor of it all just calls to me.
I haven’t been bowling in years and years. My husband and I occasionally made a date of it in our courting days, and I always thought it was lots of fun. But also lots of money.
There are a few challenges, from a Frugal perspective, to achieving my 2010 New Year’s Resolution of becoming a bowler. First of all, from where I’m standing now I don’t know at all what it would cost. But I remember when I used to go years ago it wasn’t cheap. Also, the other big Frugal challenge is that at this point in my life I’m not about to use rented shoes and balls. I want my own. And a cute bag. And a cute bowling shirt with my name embroidered on the pocket. In cursive. And all this must be pink. Oh, and I don’t even know where the nearest bowling alley is.
So a lot to chew on here. Can this Resolution be met (Frugally) in 2010? Will I be crushed on January 1, 2011 if nary a strike has thundered from my pink ball in 2010? Will my husband be willing to go bowling with me (thus increasing the cost, but so worth it) or will I travel this road alone? Do bowling balls come in pink? Stay tuned!
