Cheap Links

Stop the presses! Alert the Academy of Natural and Applied Tightwadology (A-NAT)! My sister, a humble Teen Services Librarian from Orange County, CA, has discovered the “holy grail” of Frugalology! Yes,  it is my pleasure to announce that she has discovered……THE MISSING LINK(s)!

Here’s how it went down:

Aaaaah! My nephew recently went on his very first date EVER! The event was his high school’s winter formal.

So, this was kind of a fancy-schmancy affair.  It didn’t require a tux, but definitely a tie.

The very day of the event, my sis was looking over the glad rags.  Uh oh! She noticed that the dress shirt required cuff links. Who has cuff links nowadays? And she sure didn’t want to spend a lot more moolah on the affair, as she’d already laid out a pretty penny.

Well, of course there is a segment of the population out there that do possess cuff links.  Our dads! She calls him up, and he says, sure, he has a pair.  So she drives down there, but Dad can only find one.  Oh no.

My mom stands by silently watching all the drama of Dad hunting around for the missing link.  Then, with the dance approaching and the tension mounting she announces “I called Bargain Box earlier and they have lots of cuff links.”

Bargain Box is my mom’s go-to thrift store.  She’s been a dedicated customer for years.

So she and my sis head down there, and sure enough they have a really great selection.  My sister buys a beautiful GENUINE gold and mother-of-pearl set, shirt studs included, for $12.00. Wowsers! So now we know, Dads and thrift stores have cuff links.

Come to think of it, Dads are kind of like thrift stores, too.  They always seem to have useful good junk that you need. At reasonable prices.

I really hope Dad finds his own missing link.  In about 10 years his grandkids will start hitting the marriage market and he’s gonna need it. But there’s always Bargain Box.

Excuse me while I call National Geographic. I see a 2 hour documentary special in my sis’ future.
