Frugal Idea for February 15th, 2009

Book Bargains

My favorite bookstore, Half-Price Books, has a section in the back with super-discounted items.

On my most recent Friday evening visit, I made a really fun (Frugal) find.

I found nine Quantum Leap novels for $1.00 each!

If you don’t remember, this was an early ’90’s series starring Scott Bakula.  I was a big fan at the time, but I never knew that the series was also “novelized”.  Several different authors contribute to the series, so that also makes it kind of fun. And oh, that early ’90’s nostalgia! You can’t really place a price on that. (I remember that the economy was in the crapper then, too).

By the way, a current tv series that I really like, “Monk”, also has novelizations.  I’ve read most if not all of those, and they are pretty good, too.  I think this is the last year of “Monk”, though :(.

I bought the books with a Christmas gift card, so they were “free”.  Also, I could take them back to Half Price Bookstore for a store credit when I am done with them, but I probably won’t do that because I keep all my books.  Now if only I could find a Quantum Leap lunchbox.  Does anyone know of a Half-Price Lunchbox store?

Update: Since I wrote this post, I’ve read the first two in the series: Quantum Leap: The Novel and Too Close for Comfort. Very entertaining.  I’ve found out background info that I wasn’t aware of when I originally watched the TV series.  Also, it’s interesting to read early 90’s science fiction from a 2009 perspective.  So many things have changed even in this short time.  Tho’ written in the early 90’s the action takes place in 1999, which makes it even more interesting.  The authors are purposefully vague about “1999″ technology.  The truth about how that has turned out is probably even stranger than fiction!
