Another Wedding Idea and Other News

The other day I was in an antique mall killing time while my husband got his hair cut at his favorite barbershop.  I like this particular antique mall because it is huge and meandering.  It’s fun to wander around and see what there is to see.

I saw that there was a lot of “vintage” bridal gear on offer.  To be honest, a lot of it looked terribly dated.  I doubt most brides would be happy in an ’70’s-style gown.  For some reason there were a lot of those.

I also saw a LOT of veils.  Taken as a whole, they were not very impressive either.  Kind of limp-looking.

Many of them had really pretty crown-pieces, however.  Taking a closer look, I could see that it was the veil part that was pulling down the “look”.  The tulle on these older veils was yellow and limp.  But I think it would be easy to recycle the crowns, updating the look with some crisp new tulle or lace.

These veils were pretty inexpensive, compared to brand-new ones.  I’ve also seen lots at thrift stores, too.  They are so cheap that it would be cost-effective to buy a bunch of different ones and experiment.  That would be fun.

In other news, I’ve finished all my paperwork for my new job.  Looks like I’ll be starting next week.  Wow! This “New” Economy is really something else.  I’m doing everything through e-mail.  I don’t even have to get on the phone.  Or leave my house.  The last time I worked for a paycheck, I commuted 2 hours everyday.  I really didn’t think much of it because I was so used to it.  Now that is two hours I can be working instead of driving.  I am going to be a Model of Modern Efficiency.  I can hardly wait.

Recently my niece celebrated a birthday.  I sent her money because she needs to save up for a new cage for her guinea pig who is outgrowing her house.  I also sent her an extra iPod Nano I had.  I made sure to not send it under false pretenses.  I mean, I didn’t send it as a “new” iPod, because it isn’t.  But I know she doesn’t have one so I think she’ll like it.

dsc01811Now, you make ask, what are you doing with two iPods!? My husband won a blue one at his company Christmas party last year, so I have been using that one.  About two years ago he gave me one for Christmas, and that is the one I sent my niece.  It was a shame that it was just sitting around gathering dust. I still had the box and had taken good care of it so it’s in great shape.

So I suppose that means I engaged in an act of “re-gifting” which is Frugal, which is why I mentioned it.
